[Discussion] Are there any other parents out there thinking of their children and the singularity?
As parents we want to see our children grow up, graduate high school, college, marriage, family, career, and then grandchildren. This all is part of our culture and genetic drive. When you think of your child "uploading" themselves, what are your thoughts on that? I think there is going to be a big rift in society when this all "goes down". The singularity, if it occurs, will be a very traumatic event.

Just had a baby this week and am very excited for him because he's living at a very wonderful time in our history. I'll do everything I can to prepare him for what's ahead.

Well its weird... My wife and I have discussed this before we had kids... and decided that we would not "Not" have kids even though we think that the world as we know it will not exist very soon...

So basically we have 2 children now and enjoy our time with them... Cos life is too short to be paralysed now by an uncertain future

I plan on teaching my son the way of flexibility of the mind.
Fear immobilizes through inflexibility of action and thought. Hate manifests through inflexibility in understanding differences. If I teach him the lessons of controlling his own fears and aversions by becoming flexible in the mind, something like a mind upload becomes an interesting curiosity. One of my many wishes for him is to honor choice over fear and if he did that, I would honor his choice to be uploaded...

Oh, yeah...Forget to mention that if he didn't, visiting me might be a little more difficult.
